03/29/09 Sunday Run

by admin on Mar.26, 2009, under Group Training

MacCready is great because it’s a great surface, the trails are 1.4, 1.6, 2.5 miles, and no traffic.  You always finish a loop thinking it had to be short because it didn’t seem to take enough time.

MacCready Reserve – on Skiff Lake Rd north of Jefferson.

8:00 a.m.

Last time we ran about 10 miles altogether.  Come do whatever you want.

Two weeks ago the restroom was shut down because the well was down, I don’t know the current status.

Wednesday Speed Work

by admin on Mar.22, 2009, under Uncategorized

We meet at Parkside JR High Track on Wednesdays and do speed work.  We run fast, then slow, alternating until we have had enough.  Occasionally we can’t/don’t use the track and find something else nearby, but we always meet at the track.  Bring a drink.
6:30 p.m. every Wednesday starting March 25.

03/15/09 Sunday Run

by admin on Mar.11, 2009, under Uncategorized

Run at MacCready Reserve this Sunday  at 8:00 a.m.   MacCready is great and not far.  This is training, but not too intense – if you stop someone else or all will stop too.  Depending on how much I do on Saturday I’ll run up to 15 miles.

Last week we had lots or rain.   I didn’t even go look at the trails and deferred to the road.  With the time change sunrise is about 7:50 a.m.  This week’s weather prediction looks good.

Some haven’t been to MacCready – the entrance is on Skiff Lake Rd just north of Jefferson Rd.  Here’s a link to the website post with maps.  There are 3 trails in there totaling 5.5 miles.  MacCready has parking and restrooms.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 48.
Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 28.
Sunday: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 47.

Beagle has a lot going on.  Longer and faster.  Check the other posts on site to see.

MacCready Reserve

by admin on Mar.11, 2009, under Places

MacCready is a wonderful place to to run trails.  It’s located in the southern part of Jackson County, Michigan.  X-ski is good, too.

There are three loops of trails that total 5.5 miles.  The loops have from a little to quite a bit of hills.  There is a parking lot, nice restroom, and water.

They have a brochure with the trails at the site.  The trails are marked very well.

MacCready Management map link

It is owned and maintained by Michigan State University. MSU will be use the property for demonstration purposes by the Department of Forestry, the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife, MSU Extension, and University Outreach.

This link tells how it came to be open to the public.

MacCready Reserve is located at 9243 Skiff Lake Rd, Jackson MI.  Microsoft Map below, and here’s a Google Map link
