03/01/09 Sunday Run

by admin on Feb.26, 2009, under Group Training

Run 7.5 miles around Clark Lake, then do the loop again or something else.  Last time after the loop we ran another 3 mile loop east of the lake for a total of 11.5mi, and then some of us did more after that for 15mi.  This is a 10+ minute pace.  Of course you can run fartleks out and jog back, or something like that.  Was a bit icy last time when we started.

Meet at: County Park on Ocean Beach just north of the Beach Bar, east end of lake.  Link to Google map

Time:  start at 7:30 a.m.

Weather prediction as of Thursday evening:

Saturday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 13. North  northeast wind between 10 and 14 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph.
Sunday: A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 28.

Sunday Run 02/22/09

by jimmymatthews on Feb.19, 2009, under Group Training

Matthews and friends are going to go all the way to Adrian and do a 15.4 mile loop.  Not too fast 10+ minute most likely.  The weather may not cooperate - see Thursday evening’s forecast for weekend below.

Meet at Sutton Elementary School – map link - you can do directions off this map if you need to.

The loop is country roads, into Adrian early and out the rails-to-trails paved path, somewhere between flat and rolling,  route link on GMap.  Last time we got a little lost for an extra 6 miles.

Starting early at 7:30 a.m.  Bring something to drink.

Saturday: Snow. High near 29. Breezy, with a east wind 11 to 20 mph becoming south southwest. Winds could gust as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible.

Saturday Night: Snow likely, mainly before 1am. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 16. Breezy, with a west wind between 13 and 22 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Sunday: A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 24.

Hidden Lake Gardens

by jimmymatthews on Feb.18, 2009, under Places

Some of us went out to run there on Sunday 02/15.  We had some 4″ of snow on Saturday and a dusting on Sunday morning so it was a bit slick on the plowed paved roads, but half of the roads were not plowed.  The trails had some 4-6″ of snow, some being left from before.  No one else was out there at 8:00, but a few others came to walk later.

The pictures don’t look very bright, but the sun was out most of the time.   We got 3 hours of running in.

The site is very nice for running.  Several loops totalling six miles of roads.  Some flat areas, and some hills, both long and steep.  And several loops of trails totalling 5.5 miles, with the longest at 3 miles.  We ran the long one – a bit technical in the snow – and no tracks to follow.

Some folks come out to x-ski and there are trails marked for that, but they don’t groom any.

The fee is $3 per person, but it looks like they put the money to good use.  One woman was suprised we were there and remarked that usually there are none so early any day even in the spring.

Did I mention there are restrooms!

I could not find a map of the place online so I scanned the map they gave me and have links here.

You can see the streets on the map sites and can do routes on those once you know the layout.

02/15/09 Sunday Run

by admin on Feb.13, 2009, under Group Training

Last week we got the 7.5 mile loop in and then a 3 miler, and then an out and back for 4 more or so.  People did however much they wanted.

The same applies this Sunday.  They have roads with hills that loop and are not too long, and roads that are flat and then roll a little – a longer loop, and even 5 miles of trails.  We can do whatever you want.  I’ll run as long as anyone else wants to.

Meet at Hidden Lake Gardens down past Brooklyn on M-50.  Meet in the park at the Gift Shop.  This is from their website http://www.hiddenlakegardens.msu.edu/  Entrance to Hidden Lake Gardens is on M50 between Pentecost Hwy and Nortley Hwy west of Tipton, Michigan

There is a little map image attached that kind of shows the location – look in middle of map – it’s on north side of the road.  And the Hidden Lake Garden’s locations/map link web pages is http://hiddenlakegardens.msu.edu/Directions.aspx

Admission is $3.00 per person.

~ 8:10 a.m. – they don’t open until 8, so if you get to the admission building at 8 it’s going to take up to 10 minutes to get to the Gift Shop.

I had a map of the park, but can’t find it.  They give one out when you enter.

It’s a cool place, shouldn’t be much traffic, there are restrooms, here’s a GMap for a 3.5 mile loop that’s not very hilly http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2556895, here is another http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2556898

Upgraded Site

by admin on Feb.13, 2009, under Uncategorized

We are revamping the website … again.   Last year we went from html code to e107 content manager.   Now we are using blogger software by WordPress.   I think we will take advantage of using the email-to-post feature, and the feedburner.
