12:03 and change …What a day, high in the upper 60′s, mostly cloudy, not much wind.As the sun was coming up you could see the Swiss Alps in the distance, best we’ve been able to see them since we got here last Tuesday and you could see them all day long, neat racing with the Alps as a backdrop. The race started with Lake Zurich being very calm and flat, a 1:04 swim was right where I wanted to be, got dressed for the bike, under 5 minutes, and we’re off and riding. Two loops of the bike course that started with 20 miles of flat and fast riding around the lake to the other side and almost to the end of the lake, Lake Zurich is narrow, little more than half mile across and nearly 15miles long, then into the hills. up, down and around, through little towns? Villages, I,m not sure what to call them, not real big but one every 5 miles it seemed. then after another 15 miles came the Beast a 2 mile climb that is Granny Gear Tough with a sweet downhill on the other side too coast down, then climbing some more, not as tough but you know your climbing, then a 2 mile or so screaming downhill, Colin said he hit 52 and 57 mph, those are not typing error those are quotes, with Tour de France type curves, then 12 miles back to transition. Just before you get there they send you past transition to Heartbreak Hill, another climb where the crowds are squeezing down on you just like the tour, this is where they had your special needs were to be handed off, Tina could actually run faster than I could ride. Repeat and you’ve completed the Swim and Bike. The run is a double out and back covering 10.5k per lap 4 laps and your one, off to bed now! I’M TIRED!!!! 8x iRONMAN, Jeff Beagle |

Mark Ott won another marathon. Fortunately for us he always feels like writing about it. A local extraordinary runner with a great blog. http://www.docott.com/run/
