07/05/09 Sunday Run
by admin on Jul.02, 2009, under Group Training
Hanover Firecracker 5 mile run is Saturday at 8:00. Have to be there by 7:30 to get bus up to Horton start.
Sunday’s run calls for a 6 mile run and a favorite one is the Mapledale hills between Hatch Rd and Tygh. 1.5 miles long means down and back twice, or more if you want.
How about 7:30 a.m. parking on edge of Mapledale Rd just south of Hatch. Route is http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1590135
Weather:
Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 56. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph.
Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 79.
Bugs: ??, hopefully slow. Leslie and I talked with a couple that walked MacCready last Sunday afternoon and they said bugs were not a problem there, interesting.
Happy 4th

EST Events held a ‘women only’ tri/du on 06/27/09 out at Waterloo’s Portage Lake. There were a quite a lot of area athletes there. They had a great day for it, and a large attendance. It was EST Event’s first tri/du and seems as though they did an excellent job. Got a picture of a few of or girls.
EST Events is putting on a 10-leg triathlon in August. After seeing that this one went off so well I’m eager to spread the word about the biggie. I and a couple guys I know have signed up. Some are talking about it and probably better not wait too long. Check it out at http://www.estevents.com/race-bow.htm

Speedwork 07/01 & Guys Headed to IM Switzerland
by admin on Jun.29, 2009, under Group Training
Wednesday nights feature the weekly "speed" workouts at the Middle School at Parkside.
When I refer to "speed" I am defining "speed" as running intervals just slightly faster than what your target pace is for your "A" priority race/s.
Jeff Beagle and I have Ironman Switzerland coming up on July 12, 2009, and as many of you are aware the last leg of an iron/full distance triathlon is a marathon. So our version of a "speed" workout may be slightly different than someone who is working on foot-speed for a 5 Kilometer race. The good news is that this usually means a large group can stick together in the same workout without causing too much confusion or congestion.
If your schedule (and interest) permits, join me at the Track on Wednesday night at 6:30pm.
Jeff and I will be leaving for Switzerland on July 6, 2009. This may be your last chance to see (tell race stories, swap lies, etc) Jeff and I until we resume training again (try not to miss me/us too much while we are gone). This by no means gives everyone an excuse to slack off on their training.
Speaking only for myself, I can say with 100% confidence that I will not be back before August – regardless of my performance.
Total running distance (including warm-up and warm-down) is usually in the 5-6 mile range.

EST Events is having their women’s only tri/du on Sunday at Portage Lake where Waterloo Tri is also held.
Cheryl is doing the sprint. Leslie and I and maybe others are going out to cheer and see how this event goes. We are taking our bikes and planning to do some riding and running out there. You are welcome to come out and join us.
Leslie and Scott are doing Detroit Marathon, Cheryl and I are doing the Grand Rapids Marathon. Both are Oct 18. Sunday runs are going to follow that training schedule for the next 15 weeks. My schedule says 9 miles Sunday.
Concord Classic is 27th at 8:00 a.m.

Cheryl and Matthews are going to join Beagle and others at Vandercook Lake for a swim at 7:00 a.m. Then off to run …
Run the 3 loops at MacCready Reserve beginning at 8:30 a.m. Then bike from there out for some ____ miles. And then back to MacCready to run some more. Should make for a good morning.
Weather
Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48. East wind between 3 and 6 mph.
Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 74.
Next week, Saturday June 20, there is an organized open water swim at Portage Lake put on by the new Tri Race people at www.estevents.com. It’s $15 + USAT before 19th . Might do that and either way we are going to do some running and biking out there. This will be on Saturday and with Sunday being Father’s Day, we may skip Sunday. Skip and Matthews are doing the EST Events Battle of Waterloo in August and were thinking of running some of those five run legs. The maps are on EST website.
